Sitting out his junior year for medical reasons he became a member of the Big Ten’s Anti-Hate & Anti-Racism Coalitions while also earning his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, Chig is seeking his Masters in Technology Entrepreneurship. As a senior, he started all 13 games at Tight End, stood second on the team with 52 receptions for 447 yards with a team-best five touchdowns and finished his college career with the second most receptions by a tight end in program history. Chig was recognized on the field for his historic play, being nodded as a top candidate to receive the John Mackey Award in both 2020 & 2021. The award is presented annually to college football’s most outstanding TE. Throughout his time as a ‘Terp, he was touted by his teammates as being the biggest “sneakerhead” on the team and was always showing them the best new anime’s to watch. Chig entered the NFL Draft following the 2021 season. Chig ran in the NFL Scouting Combine and recorded the fastest 40-yard dash time out of any other tight ends with a 4.52 in his second run, a slight increase from his 4.54 time in his first run. He was the only player to increase his overall time with his second run, the next closest TE was tenths-of-a-second behind. Chig looked smooth on the field during drills at the NFL Scouting Combine. In the opinion of NFL.com’s Chad Reuter, "He showed the ability to track passes over his shoulder and adjust to throws that were not on target." He didn't drop a single pass in the gauntlet drill. The mercurial tight end seized the moment and put everyone on notice. Chig has already received praise for his work ethic and skills prior to the draft from current NFL stars, including two-time Pro Bowler and the last unanimously voted NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson.
