As a black female with a disability, a mental health advocate, and a member of the LGBT+ community, Jaleen Roberts uses her platform to show other people that with determination they can succeed in any aspect of their life. A favorite quote that speaks to Jaleen is by Henry van Dyke, “Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.” Having been born with cerebral, a condition that impairs muscle coordination caused by a stroke at birth, Jaleen wasn’t destined to succeed but by getting out of her comfort zone and displaying resiliency in the face of adversity, she was able to become a 2x Paralympic Silver Medalist, reaching one of the highest points of achievement. However, her passion and purpose run deeper than success. By sharing her journey, she hopes to inspire younger generations of female athletes and encourage others to reach out and speak up when they are in times of need.
