Iris Wang is a professional US badminton player who began playing the sport at the age of eight, competing internationally at sixteen, and ultimately qualifying for her first Olympics (Rio 2016) at twenty one. After 2016, she took a break from badminton to finish her business economics degree at UCLA. However, her passion for the sport remained, so since graduating, Iris has returned to badminton full time. She is currently based in Aarhus, Denmark where she competes in the highest leagues in Denmark and Germany. Besides her goal to compete in the 2024 Olympics, Iris hopes to master the sport and promote badminton in the US. As an athlete participating in an unrecognized US sport, it has been tough to find the financial and team support needed to be a top player. The USA Badminton association does its best to support its athletes, however as a small nonprofit, none of the funds go to the athletes. Despite the lack of funding, Iris has done her best to find the means to train, travel, and compete at the highest level.
