 Chanel Smith is a philanthropist, mother, wife, fitness and health expert, college track athlete, and former teacher. Smith earned a joint degree in Elementary Education and Sociology at the University of Maryland. After college, she went on to teach in Baltimore County. Chanel makes it a priority to give back to the community in as many ways as she can. Along with her husband, two-time Super Bowl Campion Torrey Smith, they created their non-profit as soon as they arrived in Baltimore. Their nonprofit, LEVEL82 (Leadership, Education, Vision, Effort, Love), strives to create a gathering space at the Hilton Recreation Center for those who live, work and play in Baltimore City while developing strategically-curated programming to empower the community. To that end, their mission is to leverage the power of collaboration to enable families to reach their full potential. During the pandemic, Chanel saw a need for a community around fitness and health, so she created Instafam Fitness. This began in March 2020, with three workouts a week, and has grown to include meet ups for runs, healthy eating tips including weekly food prep, yoga and mental health sessions. Smith’s passion to learn and create a lasting impact goes well beyond the non-profit. In 2017, she earned her MBA at the University of Miami. Along with her husband, the Smiths have been ambassadors for BARCs (Baltimore Animal and Care Rescue Center) since arriving in Baltimore.
