Qadr Spooner, an offensive lineman from McGill University, was selected in the second round, 15th overall, by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2017 Canadian Football League Draft. He becomes the 131st member of the Redmen to be drafted by a CFL team, dating back to 1953. A 25-year-old from Brossard, Que., who merited all-star honours in the RSEQ conference last fall, the 6-foot-4, 314-pound left tackle was the fifth offensive lineman picked from U SPORTS, the national governing body formerly known as CIS. He drew the attention of some CFL scouts as far back as his freshman year in 2013 when he started alongside NFL-bound McGill senior Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.
