After more than 10 years of racing triathlon, I am grateful to have had the opportunities to not only compete multiple times on Team USA for triathlon world championships and complete four Boston Marathons, but also to train with a world-class Olympic coach for the Olympic Marathon Trials. It was during this time that I fell mysteriously ill for two years leading to an eventual diagnosis of a large life-threatening brain tumor. After my tumor was removed in 2013, I was able to enjoy, what I consider, a miraculous recovery and remarkable athletic come-back! Within that year of recovery, I believe God gave me the ability to win Master's at Top of Utah marathon (and a $500 cash prize) as well as PR my 5k run with a sub-20 minute run!! I run with a new joy and appreciation for being able to run and compete strongly again. And, I love to encourage others to overcome their own trials, or to keep trying after any kind of setback. It's the joy of the sport that matters, and ultimately allows us to perform our best!
