Alana Smith is among a select group of skateboarders who push limits regardless of the terrain. Since Smith stormed onto the X Games scene with a Women’s Park silver medal at Barcelona 2013, she’s made it clear that she’s a force to be reckoned with. Smith has developed into an aggressive, yet stylish, skater who can handle whatever obstacle is thrown at her. She was also the first, and currently only, woman to do a backflip on a skateboard. Smith has said many times, “I don’t want to be known as a good female skateboarder. I just want to be known as a good skater, someone that made a difference. Gender shouldn’t matter.” With women’s skateboarding originally slated to debut at the 2020 Summer Olympics Tokyo, Smith earned a position on the national team for USA. Due to COVID-19, Tokyo 2020 is now Tokyo 2021, and Smith is using the extra time to train even harder, making a strong push to show the world her exceptional skills and bring home a medal for the USA.
