Founded in 1996, the Los Angeles Sparks were one of eight original WNBA teams and now one of three remaining inaugural franchises celebrating their 25-year anniversary. All year long, we celebrate an organization that has made a positive impact on the city and beyond while standing tall and remaining #RootedinLA. On June 21, 1997, in The City of Champions, the Los Angeles Sparks hosted the New York Liberty at a sold-out Great Western Forum in Inglewood for the first WNBA game in league history. The classic East Coast/West Coast matchup saw hometown native Lisa Leslie win the tip, and the first season of the longest standing women’s league was set in motion; remaining forever #RootedInLA. Through three WNBA championships, a league-leading 20 playoff appearances, and the most games won in WNBA history, the franchise has evolved over two and a half decades. As we enter the next 25 years, we’ll continue to inspire future generations of players and fans. On the court, we will remain committed to excellence and the pursuit of championships. Off the court, we will continue to provide opportunities for young girls and women and engage with aspiring youth. Through it all we will always embrace social justice because change has no offseason. The Los Angeles Sparks are the first LA professional women’s team woven into the fabric of the community. Join us this year as we embrace new beginnings, celebrate 25 years, while continuing to deepen our roots in this eclectic and dynamic city. The Los Angeles Sparks are #RootedInLA. Are you?
