 Scottish former professional footballer, manager and Club CEO In 2020, I suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage that led to life-saving surgery. When your life is threatened – when all that you love is close to being taken away from you - it gives you a completely new perspective on what really matters. I’ve always loved football. I grew up in a house where my Dad was a pro footballer. I started playing as a kid – and there was never any other career to tempt me away from the pitch. Twenty years playing the game at six clubs with 442 senior appearances - more than half of them at Celtic – plus 46 caps at different levels for my country. When I retired from playing, I took up roles in management - three clubs in six years. As with all management, there were real highs and lows. It gave me a very different view of the game – adding to my knowledge and understanding. That wealth of experience – across all levels and aspects of the game – led me to my current work … a pundit and commentator. I’ve worked with BBC Sportscene, Sky Sports, BT Sport, Celtic TV and ITV.
