I am an avid runner, and I have autism. I was not supposed to be mentally older than 18 months. Doctors told my parents to put me in an institution. They refused. Instead, my parents with perseverance brought me out of isolation and developed trust with me, and guided me to get on the fast track (in racing and life). I mentor fellow athletes in Special Olympics. I trained one of my teammates to run her first 10K (Celebration Run 2016). Next year, she will be running her first half marathon.
