ย KI Racing is a BAJA SAE team based in VIT University, Vellore. We are a bunch of creative engineering minds with the aim of taking the team to the topmost step of the podium. The team competes in the BAJA SAE Collegiate design series. Our job is to design and build a prototype of an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). About 30 undergraduate engineering students combine their skills and create a one-off design to be showcased in front of the whole world. How we get it going? Building an ATV is definitely not a one-day wonder, it requires extensive stretches of commitment and a strong affirmation. The speculations we learn in school rouses us to apply them in building genuine race ATV Vehicle. We stretch out our days to 18 hours and unlimited night hours in the workshop to bring life to our vehicle. We construct our ATV starting with no outside help โ appropriate from conceptualization, structure, producing lastly entering the testing stage which is a standout amongst the most vital parts of our arrangement. Why we do it? The team aims to provide exposure to all its members and thus participates in two reputed events that take place in USA and India respectively. The events being BAJA SAE International It is an international event that is organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Held in the United States of America (USA), it requires us to build an all-terrain, off-road vehicle intended for sale to off-roading enthusiasts. The event unites automotive experts from around the globe who share their technical expertise. The team has been participating every year since 2011. Mega ATV India: The event with the same requirements as the BAJA SAE International is basically the Indian version of the international event. It showcases the talent that India has to offer in the automotive sector of the country. Adventures up until now: Team KI Racing was built up in 2010 by a group of mechanical students of VIT University, who had a hankering, a dream, and a significant vision inside them. We started with the objective of joining those brains which are enthusiastically wearing down a crowd of innovative advances, and to outfit them with a social occasion with the desire for complimentary exchange of ideas and open them to the latest improvements. Achievements We set a benchmark in BAJA history for all the Indian teams by being the FIRST Indian team to clear the Technical round in very FIRST ATTEMPT. With sincere efforts, we secured 8th position out of 100 teams in cost report event, 2012. We were then labelled as the BEST BAJA team from Asia by Vice President, SAE International and are the only Indian team to have been consistently participating in the SAE BAJA, USA Events for the past 5 years. With our genuine dedication, perseverance and the support of our sponsors, weโll surely make it to the pinnacle. 2015 โข Entitled as "Titans of Asia" โข Secured 54th position out of 120 teams in BAJA SAE held at Oregon, USA โข 28th rank in cost report at BAJA SAE Oregon, USA 2016 โข 8th rank in acceleration event at BAJA Student India โข 6th rank in Sales Presentation at BAJA Student India โข 65th out of total 160 teams in the competition 2017 โข 3rd rank in Sales Presentation at Enduro Student India โข 4th rank in Cost Event at Enduro Student India โข 5th rank in Endurance Event at Enduro Student India โข 7th rank at Design Presentation at Enduro Student India โข 6th rank overall Challenges associated to our project Funds have always been the biggest challenge for us as putting together resources and skill-sets are things under our full control. Due to lack of monetary support, we often fall short of achieving what we set out for and we have to cut through many tests, small malfunctions that emerge to be extremely dangerous at the live competition. The risk has always been at the testing phase of our vehicle. Given that we get limited funding support from our University and building an ATV is a very expensive task combined with the fact that we participate in two competitions every year, we always stay on a constant lookout for sponsors that can fund us or provide us with materials that serve our purpose. Additionally, due to foreordained reason we lost our major components that otherwise could have been used again. This puts us in immediate shortage of funds.
