Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Brandon Phillips was a 2nd round draft pick in 1999 by the Montreal Expos; now the Washington Nationals. Phillips played with the Expo’s double A team for three seasons until he was traded to the Cleveland Indians. Once Phillips took his talents to Cleveland, he has been in Ohio ever since. Phillips was a member of the Cleveland Indians for the first five years of his MLB career and has been with the Cincinnati Reds ever since, signing through to the 2017-2018 season.

 

But it wasn’t until the 2005-2006 season that we really took note of Phillips' highly coveted talents on the field, at the plate, and on the bases.

 

What separates Phillips from your lay-second baseman is his speed - both offensively and defensively - and his power at the plate.  Phillips is one of three Cincinnati Reds to ever join the 30/30 club.  The 30/30 club is reserved for those elite players that slug thirty home runs and steal thirty bases. Just to shed light on the merit of such of an accomplishment, upon joining the 30/30 club Phillips is among company unanimously regarded as MLB’s best, including players like Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays.  If Phillips joining the 30/30 wasn't enough, he also won three golden-gloves, one silver slugger award and has been a National League All-Star on more than one occasion. Considering these accolades, ask yourself: What can’t Phillips do?
